Sample News Profiles & Ledes

Here are a few samples of news features from various sources on the Internet. Notice the structure of the top each story. Very similar and close to the Road Map we've been practicing in class. Notice how with people-oriented stories like these, the writer chooses to go right to quote a P2 to get the subject's voice into the reader's mind faster.

The last example is a Q&A, which is generally the only time you want to do a one-source story. Although this one does not do it, Q&As traditionally start with a short intro of four or five paragraphs.
